Centerpiece fish for 45 gallon

Yes, Pearls are nice as well. I don't know, the Golds just seem more distinctive to me but then again it also depends on what his tank looks like i.e. gravel, decorations, ect.

Thanks, these are all great suggestions; giving me lots of ideas! How aggressive do the gouramis tend to get? I have read that they can get that way when they reach adulthood.

Yes they can be aggressive but it's important to remember that they tend toward territorial aggression and not simply aggression for it's own sake. In addition to that, not ALL gourami are aggressive, it's a hit or miss deal, although the males seem to be more inclined to this behavior in my personal experience.

IMO---A Gouramis will only be agressive with another gouramis.

I have a 56 cube tank with Angels as my centerpiece fish. I have rasboras, platys, tetras, danios, turquoise rainbows, corys and ottos in with them and they are all peaceful with each other. It's a nice balance because they are all over the tank.

It really depends on the individual. Pearls tend to be less aggressive in general and a quite peaceful tankmate. Three-spot gouramis (blues, golds, etc) tend to be more aggressive. I agree with the other poster that I think gouramis are mostly aggressive with other gouramis, except when they are breeding.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't have both an angel and gouramis, though a smaller gourami might be more appropriate for that size tank with the large angel. I wouldn't do more than 1 angel in a 45g unless you are planning on getting a pair and breeding them, in which case you might have aggression issues during breeding.

get a bosemani rainbowfish! They are beautiful looking fish and only get to about 4". They are also peaceful and can be found in most pet stores.....
