Cheap DIY Bio-Media?

Interesting, appreciate the info. I'll have to look around for dollar stores in my area, never had the need to go to one before.

Pot scrubbers will give you the most bio for the buck. 6 for a buck to be exact.

It should tell you. I have never used pot scrubbers but when I put something in my tank I always boil if safe, run through running water, boil, run through...then cycle with feeders and watch there health.

I have never had problems with anything even if it was treated. The only times I have seen any effects was with the ph and this was a positive effect.

I use lava rock in almost all my filters, you can get it at walmart for like 3 bucks/5lbs. Just rinse it first, it gets dusty.

Have some time off in the next week here, so will be working to get the 100g up and running, will keep ya posted.

Those of you who have found the "6 for a buck" dollar store pot scrubbers, did they look like any of these?

Would like to know what I'm looking for so I don't end up getting something that kills the bacteria... not to mention my fish...

I tried pot scrubbers in my trickle filter but i found they got clogged up too easily so i replaced them with smashed up terracotta pot which works great.

How did they get plugged? Did you not have a pre-filter?
