Cheap DIY Bio-Media?

i use the sponge for washing cars, theyre big and easily be found at dollar stores.

How did they get plugged? Did you not have a pre-filter?

not a good enough one, plus i wanted to grow a plant in the media making it a vegetable filter, which i didnt think pot scrubbers would be suited for.

Another thing I have used is hair currlers. They work ok for this and are very cheap.
