I picked this Flame Sword up on Friday (couldn't help myself) I've wanted a tall plant for my tank and this is definitely tall. It's kind of like cheating when you purchase a plant that's grown this much already and you didn't do the work, but swords don't do very well in low light! The reason I think I will be able to keep it alive is because all the leaves are already at the top of my 36gal, so there getting the most light! Another thing that is unfortunate is that it will probably change color to all green leaves instead of the red spotted ones the Flame Swords are known for in lower light conditions.

My 36gal is only 0.5WPG, so this should be interesting! For $5 bucks I couldn't pass up the challenge. The only other thing I plan to do is try a root tab under it in the gravel after it's been in the tank a week or two..

It's 20" tall and 12" wide by the way!! :headbang2:

Thoughts/ideas welcome...

I've kept a number of sword plants in my 46 gallon, 18W tank, and actually got a big mother hulk of a sword producing little swords all the time. .5W might be a little low, but I don't think it'll be awful, either. I find that they really thrive in rich substrates, rather than depending all that much on strong lighting.

Looks nice. Light is a little low, but GOOD LUCK!!!

I bought a sword plant, and with less light than that one has it was ALWAYS producing new swords. Pretty easy way to make a couple bucks off craigslist :)

It's doing waayy better than I thought it would, It's added 4 new leaves in 9 days... that's crazy!! I had no idea... (but just as I was told, the Red goes away and the leaves turn green due ti low light) still cool though.

I like the driftwood piece and the plant. That is pretty fast growth(4 leaves in 9 days).

Nice tank!
