chinese theme

havn't seen the chinese high-fin catfish, if you can post a link as to where i can buy one (didn't see on on live aquaria) i'd consider it over the panda corys.

I think Austin was referring to the Chinese highfin banded shark, AKA Asian sucker, Myxocyprinus asiaticus. Juveniles are pretty commonly available, but they get to be enormous (2 feet plus).

I wish more coolwater East Asian fish were available; there are some very interesting species over there.

i agree. at least a site where you can categorize fish by origin. i literally scoured liveaquaria.com for fish i liked, and crossed my fingers that they be asian. ..i ended up learning about a few fish though.

i think a gourami with a school of harlequin rasbora and a few pandas would look real nice, and stay true to the theme.

Your tank looks really cute, and the rice box idea is cool. :)
But, I wasn't sure how picky you wanted to be about this being "Chinese," or maybe just "Asian," but that red gate you've got is a Japanese object associated with the Shinto religion. It's called a tori, and they mark Shinto shrines. They come in lots of styles. It looks like yours is a replica of this one:

Same one :S?! :nilly:

If you wanted asian ornaments Petsmart started selling those dogs that guard shrines, buddahs, and pagodas.

just add a design :)

****, i already ordered 2 porcelain ones, but now that i saw this pic again think the "frosted" white one could be cool too. this one you can leave closed, and have the white/green/brown (pork fried rice) gravel inside and be able to see it because they are sort of translucent. may have to buy to compare. it would erase this worry about cleaning the gravel.

edit* on the other hand, if it was open the fish may go inside.

beautiful find. ordering now. what could you use for "paint" if i wanted to put a design? i was thinking of cutting the design out of an actual take out container and using as a stencil.

If you use the see-through ones I would just leave it sitting up straight with the top open and the "rice gravel" in the bottom. If the top is open fish most likely WILL go in there, and with the top open its still easy to get a gravel vac in there when necessary. Also, since its see-through you can still see your "rice" inside. You could even have a set of chopsticks sticking out of it standing up so it looks like an abondoned meal sitting in your tank! :dance2:

very true. i have both the porcelain and "frosted" plastic ones coming. we shall see what looks better. i'll keep you guys informed.
