Chip/Bubble in New Tank

Ok got my new tank this weekend and was filling it up for the 1st time checking for leaks.

Then I see this....It is on the rear right side of the tank. (which is a 72g bowfront)

It looks like a shiney black bubble that is slightly smaller than a bean and it it right on the seal. Here it is from the otherside.

It seems to be a chip that was present during manufacture and is part of the seam. Is this something to be concerned about? Should I bring it back? (OMG PLZ SAY NO) :help:

Is the 1st picture a view of the chip looking INTO the tank? And the 2nd picture the outside corner of the tank plastic frame opposite of the chip?

The 1st picture is looking into the tank. The thing is around midway up the tank. The out surface is smooth so its on the inside behind the silicone. The 2nd pic is at 90 degrees of the 1st picture looking through the rear glass at that area.

if its a chip like you can cut yourself on it, then i would just put some silicone on it and call it good, if it is a bubble (witch can pop and the guess what) then i would take it back for a new one, and this one dubble check the hole tank

You should exchange it...if you are anything like me, you will not be able to sleep at night, wondering if it's the night it's gonna pop!

Assuming its not a bubble but rather a chip and there is no risk for injury should I still take it back?

If it is a chip, do you think it compromises the integrity of the piece? I can't tell from that pic, and would really just have to be there to tell.

I wouldn't think a manufacturer would pass a tank with this type of flaw, IMO. If there are no visible signs of injury to the tank that would have caused this, I would return it for an exchange. I feel a brand new tank should be perfect except for the occasional sloppy caulking.

:irked: Its just a huge pain for me to bring it back since the store was far away and I don't own a car that can carry this thing...I might roll the dice. I can confirm that it is a chip though. When I poke my nail into the seal, I can seem it going into the chip. Well at least I dont have to worry about some bubble popping. I just have to worry about spontaneous failur. Yay :/
