I got the Idea from this thread on MFK http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219465 tested it and it works great. It is explained very well in that thread. There is a 1 way check valve that prevents the siphon from breaking during a power outage. I will of course check this whenever I hook it up to the sump.

Well after test after test after test, I've finally got the right combo of overflow and return the 230 gph pump wasn't near enough to keep up with the "3/4" inch overflow. So I returned that pump, and ordered a rio 1700, and added some ball valves to the overflow and return so I can have better control (should have done this to begin with). I ran a final test tonight, and have found the correct combo, now I just have to cement the pvc on the return, because I had a couple of small leaks...I'm just gonna cement all of the joints on the return as prevetive action. This has been way more of a pain than I thought but will be worth it in the end. Still have yet to see a nitrate reading on this tank :) but the diy has been fun!!

I ended up cementing the pvc on both the return, and the overflow just to be safe, will do one final test tomorrow, and then move the sump to the tank

Well I moved the sump to the tank today, with no leaks, or any other troubles. It is working great. Next I want to make a skimmer for the overflow. Does anyone know of a good easy diy overflow skimmer I could do? I've attached a few shots of the sump and the tank.

VERY nice. I really enjoy tanks that are simple. In my opinion the background can take away from the fish themselves when it's overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I love extravagant layouts, but I enjoy the one you've got at the moment. Good job! [:

A U elbow with the end and notches in it would work too but your going to need to make sure your water level stays consistent.

Just finished my sump tonight. There is no way my baffles are going to hold water :). My silicone skills are seriously lacking!
Thanks for the suggestions on the surface skimmer, and really thanks for your help all along the way. I've found the best way to make the silicone work is to use a healthy amount, and take your finger, and smooth it out along the seams especially along the bottoms and the corners.
