Cicada shots

That is some great photography there Q. How lucky that you were able to get the whole coming out of its shell so to speak. How long did it take?
We get the swarms or nothing. when the swarms come forget about it the noise those things can make is just unbelievable.

I wasn't watching the clock but it takes about 30 mins just to come out of the old exoskeleton but then their wings have to unfold and dry. I think that takes quite some time but they're never around in the mornings so it can't be too long. They have to hide before the birds wake up.

really great shots! i loved those things as a kid-still kind of do!

Great shots Q! I like your choice of camera.... ;)

great shots, in texas those things are really noisy, where'd you take those?

These particular ones come up every year here in this part of New Jersey. Not all regions have the annual ones and some regions don't get the 17 year ones either. It's hit or miss.
