Cichlids in a 37 gallon tank, stocking options

Can other fish like loaches or any dwarf cichlids go with the Saulosi and I already have gravel in the tank that is cycling will that be ok. Obviosly I'll wait till the tank cycles till I switch these fish in, what ph do the Saulosi like. I am still considering tangs or dwarfs but i'm liking the Saulosi now too, tough decision.

Your tank is really too small for mbuna even saulosi. I wouldn't do it. The length is so important to mbuna. In too small of a tank you will get more aggression which can lead to deaths. I think it's best to stick with the tangs or get a larger tank for the saulosi.

I have a 20 long which has the same footprint and I have an 80 gallon with mbuna. When you see how active and potentially mean mbuna are you realize they will not thrive in a 30" long tank. I keep shell dwellers and some growing calvus in mine. I know the clavus will eventually outgrow the tank but for now they are pretty interesting.

ok what Tangs are the most colorful for that type of fish and what can I fit in the tank, also do dwarfs go with them ie rams - probably not- and what other types of fish period can go with tangs.
Thanks everyone for your help oh and are cichlids really worth all of this agressive not agressive work, I hope so because for some unknown reason they sorta interest me, I have herd that they are quite entertaining to watch and care for.

Hmmm, for color leleupi have a striking yellow/orange color. Julies have some nice, subtle blue and yellow colors. As for shell dwellers the coloration's even more subtle...most have mainly neutral colors. But like the multis for instance have beautiful blue eyes. Certain brevis strains have yellows. I'd recommend looking here for pics...http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/?region=T

You can curb most of the aggression by stocking properly. I rarely ran into issues when I did my multi/juli mix...mainly just standoffs between the males. It was entertaining though ;)

As for other fish...I'm not sure if it's worth cramping the inhabitants but as I said earlier you would have to look into small rainbows or danio species. Livebearers could work as well.

Ok I really like the leleupi and julies idea, how many of each for 37 gallon and can shell dwellers coexist or maybe a Apistogramma cacatuoides( dwarf cockatoo cichlid - had one years ago and loved the little guy) let me know and again I like the idea ALOT I'm like three weeks out but that give me time to find them. Also is there a bottom feeder that can go with the leleupi and julies maybe a clown loach or a synodontis? I really appreciate the help. Ph 7.8 ok? - I nkow its alot of questions thanks.

your ph is little high for apistos,, but you can try it.. i would get a pair if you get some,,,, you could go all south american ,, apistos,, cories,, tetra schools,,otos,, planted,, etc etc,,

If you want Lelupi and Julidochromis go with 5 Juvies each and sort out pairs once formed and rehome the rest as they will be targeted for destroyal in such small quarters.. As a third species you can go with a small colony of shell dweller Neolamprologus Hecqui can handle aggression..

if you want a bottom feeder or catfish, a syno cat would deffinatly be best, in that size tank, a petricola or a upsidedown syno would work. they do like to be in small groups, so keep that in mind
