cichlid's in a pond

im going to put in a tempreature swithch so when the water getting heated gets to 30 degrees it will dump it in the pond :) im an electrition so all that is easy and there is going to be some NICE bright lights in the pond to light it all up but your right i have changed my mind i am going to join my 2 4ft tanks together inside and put all my cichlid's in there and outside i am goind to get a breeding pair of convicts to make food for my BIG fish.... maybe barramundi

my big pond will be up to 5300gallons about 20000 liters
my top pond will be up to 300gallons about 1000 liters

To answer the pleco question, I have plecos in three tanks with cichlids and they've been there for over a year. They do fine and haven't lost any eyes. I have two plecos that are in the five to six inch range with a Polleni that's about 7 to 8 inches and he leaves them alone.

As for the pond, I absolutely want one some day. I live in Iowa so it would have to be indoors - the house, a garage or a green house. I don't think it would be worth the trouble of having it outdoors unless I took the ciclids out when the temps drop. I think it would be a fun way to raise cichlids and from time to time you could move fish from the pond to a tank. It would give your display some variety.

wow a pump for that would consist of a nice size pool pump sorry dont do swimming pools but they would have one for your needs but i am like nchoel123 i would want to see my big mbuna but like i said earlier if you want to dump that type of money in a project just make sure your ready for the heartaches that come with it and or do what i do with my pond put them out when the water hits and maintains the 70 degree mark a little higher for some things but general fish should be ok good luck buddy let me know..
