cleaner wrasse

Germanman

My fish are my babies
ok before you yell at me think for a sec and believe the uncommon is still possible. ok so i got a cleaner wrasse for my tank hes pretty small only about 1.5 inches and the only reason i got him is because my cleaner shrimp doesnt really clean anyone but my purple tang and these cleaner wrasse eat brine and mysis( we got them from a special source)anyway he doesnt really clean any of y fish like he should and its because the fish seem to be scared of him or dont know wut to do with him. do you think this is just an adjustment they have to make?

as long as they will eat mysis or brine, then they will survive, but youwere lucky to find one that does that.
your fish probably will take some time just to get used to the process of being cleaned, as well as not being skiddish of the new fish, and the other way around. my ocellaris clowns still wont let my two neon gobies clean them even though they have been in the tank for about 2-3 months. the neons try, but the clowns always jerk away unapprovingly.
also, if your other fish are captive bread, they may not even know how to do it. but even if they are wild caught, your cleaner wrasse may never clean.
i personaly believe that cleaner wrasses are one of the fish that is better off left where it is in the ocean. to my knowledge, no one has bread them yet, so each one is from the sea. and most will die in an aquarium because many refuse to take to prepared foods. By buying one, even one that does eat frozen foods, you are just supporting the demand for them so they will be imported more and more.
FYI: i believe the ones from the red sea have the worst reputation for not eating frozen foods as i have gathered.

PS; if youa re feeding frozen brine, make sure you are enriching it with something so they actualy get some nutrients in there

PPS: happy for a response? :dance2: lol

yes happy for a response i knew u wouldnt let me down lol.
i do enrich the brine. and i also use a speralina brine as well. along with mysis and enriched live brine. sponge for the angel and green, brown, and red algea for all the fish that want it. i saved my tang for the head and lateral line erosion it developed at the whole sale and shes doing awesome go a few scars but shes awesome. i hear you on the ocean part but the way i see it is for the commercial way. fish arnt imported only on popular demand. when i go to the whole sale they have thousands of fish we shouldnt remove and usually ones people dont usually keep. it doesnt matter to them they still import them. i figured i was saving one for its terrable demise in some other tank.
last time i was there they had natulus and ramoras made me sad...

is your cleaner wresse huge? mine still small and big fish let's him clean them. my clowns don't let any fish near them. my fish knew right away who cleaner wresse was. the most important is your wresse eats other foods, he can also find things in the rocks. mine eats everything else too. i love him. he is the only fish that moves around an visible. clowns are sitting in their grape coral all day and neon gobbies sit in the rock. blenny blends in with everything, so you can't really see her well perching. you can't do anything about fish not doing what they supposed to do

I just hope that he doesn't constantly try to clean your other fish. They can get quite stressed by this so keep an eye open. You might also have some serious issues giving it a varied enough diet to keep it healthy. I have to say that they are far better left on the reef.
cheers

it only seems to clean my purple tang when it comes over to him. he doesnt bother anyone else and has given up on the clown. i know that they are better left on the reef but like i said before it was already taken off the reef why let it die some where when it will have a chance to live in my tank?
im all for tank raised and captive grown and im actually getting my boss to switch over to that but we cant breed most saltwater fish so the trade will keep importing until they make a terrible mistake. trust me i know the state of the reefs i have written may term papers on that subject and studied reef ecology as well.(i hope to study coral reefs after i get my phd) the special animals should only be left to those who have the knowledge and will to provide what they need. ill take good care of him dont worry!
