Ok here is my problem: I have Cloudy water and not sure what the problem is. I am 2.5 weeks into my 90 gallon reef cycle. My Nitrates are almost all gone and nitrates are starting to show. I have not been running my ASM-G2 skimmer to help the cycle go faster. So the cloudy is not micro bubbles coming from my skimmer.... Not saying its not mico bubbles but its not micro bubbles coming from my skimmer... I started the Skimmer Last night and after 1 hour had an 1" of crap in the waste cup. So now I am thinking it not micro bubbles that it might be crap in the water from the cycle... What do you think...

I thought it was micro bubbles at the start so at my drain to my refugium and my sump I made a sponge so that it acts like the skimmer. The water is forced to flow up and over onto a sponge to kill the micro bubbles. This helped with the micro bubbles in the sump and refugium nut did not help the cloudy ness in the main tank. The only thing I still have not tried is putting the mag drive sponge on my 9.5 mag drive return pump... Not sure that will help.

The only thing I am not liking about the sponge idea is that is something I will have to clean on a regular basis.... sucks but if that fixes the problem im ok with that...

Any ideas?

i would go with the sponge to be honest and run for 2 - 3 days and see what improvement you get, if any...If it does make it better, i would just run with sponge unitll clear, then remove...

Has any changes been made to the system since the cycle was started? any additives used?

jsut how bad are your levels and what are you using to cycle?
also, hav eyou added any Ca or ALK suppliments? if so, which ones and how and how much?

I have used purple up 2 times in the 2.5 week cycle. Also I have buffered the Alk and Calcium with B-Inoic. I have a 24 gallon Nano that I have had up for 1 year and have been using all the same stuff on and I know its not my buffering. My levels are ammonia 0, Nitrite is like 1 or 2 now was at 3 ppm, and my nitrates are at 10ppm. Calcium is 400, and Alk not sure to be honest have not tested my alk but I am sure its perfect. My PH is 8.3 on the dot, and Temp is 79 - 80. Still messing with the temp to get it at 79 all the time. I have 2 175w Halides and 2 96W Acidic bulbs. Asm-G2 skimmer in my 20 gallon long sump and is divided by baffles. I have a 10 gallon Refugium that empties into my sump return section and the heater is in my return section of the sump. Is there anything else you need to know?

The Hosting site I use for pics is www.Onfinite.com, Its free…

Reef Crystal is the salt that I am using and I am dissolving it in a 5 gallon bucket in the basement with a pump and heater overnight. I have not added any salt to the tank for 2.5 weeks when I first started. Also on that note when I do water top off every day I use RO/DI water only.

I have (2) maxi jet 300gph in the 90 gallon and also the mag drive 950 is my return from my sump. I will also be adding another maxi jet 300gph when my 24 gallon reef is moved to the 90 gallon tank.
