Clown-Lovers 75 Gallon Tank Log

Ok, so I search every pet store in town. NO ONE had a Salfert Phosphate Test Kit. In fact the only place that had any kind of a phos test kit for salt water was petsmart and they don't even salt water fish.. Just a small section of products.. Wow. So I got this API kit.. My nitrate chemicals must have been old, because its testing out at 10 ppm. I also did three phosphate tests.

1. Tap Water
2. RO/DI Water
3. Tank Water..

While the tank water changed colors, I can't tell if there is "phosphate" in the tank water. Opinions Please.. Does it look like 0.25 ppm??

Is the tank water the last one on the right? I find the best way to look at them is to hold the tube against the middle of the card. if you can see the color bar darker through it isn't that color it is typically the next one down.

Yeah the tank is on the right.. And to me.. It looks like 0.25. But then the new question is how is phosphate getting into my tank? I don't use tap.. EVER. The only thing I can think of is the DT's phyto that I'm feeding to the feather duster. I'm only adding 1 mil every other day.

Well it is the only thing I can think of as this is what I feed.

1. Spirulina Flakes (am)
2. Zoo Plankton (this is more of treat every once in a while)
3. Home made food comprised of (squid, mussels, octopus, krill, mysis, silversides, shrimp, nori, blood worms, scallops) The seafood was found at an Asian market in a all in one bag that was frozen.
4. DT's Phyto

I know on Melev's site he uses Miracle Grow Plant food for Phyto production which has 4% phos in it and when I started using my own I planned on putting in a RowaPhos into a cannister filter.

So that is why I am coming up with the possibility of DT's having Phos. Melev doesn't outright say it on his site, but he did state that he talked with the guy who produced DT's and stated his original method of making phyto was wrong and was why he was having crashes. He then goes on to state that he talked with someone in Dallas who never had a crash and is where he got turned onto using Miracle Grow plant food.

He also adds only 5 mils to 2 liters of water. With that dilution I should see next to nothing on tests.

yeah.. I actually soaked it in RO/DI several times before processing. To the point where it all thawed out. I then froze it again to it would blend in the food processor easier.

I really like your yellow tang and your sleeper goby the flourscent yellow is beautiful and thanks for the advice on my thread as well.

Thanks Pacer.. LaVerne has come a long way since I got her.. And np on the advice. I've been in school and remember the endless hours of study.. ugh.

Well we've added a couple of new friends tonight... The royal I have been looking at for a while but the angel while I've known I've wanted an angel and purchased a cherub which had disappeared several weeks ago we decided for now to go with a Coral Beauty for now and it may end up in a possible "new" tank the GF has been talking about getting for herself.. (guess who's gonna have to clean it??!!)..

BTW these were the best pics I could get out of 50 shot.. They are spending time behind the rocks investigating everything.. LOL

Anyway let me know what ya all think..
