i was thinking about this for a co2 setup for my forty six bowfront. i just bought a simple set up, but i was told by many that it isnt nearly enough. is this a good system? if i set it up, could the co2 bottle be laying sideways?

any ideas comments or suggestions are welcome.

According to the specs this unit should be plenty big enough for your tank. Main thing is having an efficient reactor to allow the CO2 to go into solution. As for the tank IT MUST REMAIN UPRIGHT allow only gas only to reach the aquarium. Good luck.

thanks. what do you mean a good or efficient reactor?

I just an external reactor that is inline with my outlet on my canister. I built this one with a little bit of a modification. My CO2 diffusion is much more efficient now compared to a glass diffuser.

i also have a few more questions. how much would a standard 5lb co2 bottle cost me? just an average is sufficient.

and how long would the 5 lb bottle last me for my 46 bowfront?

Yup! That's what I've got.:dance2:

ok, so i got a quote on a 25 lb co2 tank for $180. it comes with one free refill. is this reasonable? and how long would the 50lbs of co2 last me on my 46 bowfront?

It would last you about 6 years, lol. in other words, you dont need anythig near that big. Get a 5-10 pound tank that is small and fits under your aquarium.

In terms of the red sea setup you want, I dont know much about it. Im sure its fine but the things that are REALLY important on a co2 setup are the needle valve and having a high quality regulator. If I were you I would ask Rex to build you one. www.rexgrigg.com
He has the best needle valves that are made for the hobby (i have the Fabco) and is a straight shooter, no BS with the guy. I can speak on behalf of his equipment but not on behalf of what Red Sea makes.

Dont forget that in this hobby, sometimes you have to spend a little more for some extra peace of mind. For example if you buy a ****ty regulator and needle valve, you stand a decent chance of killing all your fish when the entire contents of your co2 cylinder empty into you aquarium when the gas gets low, thus choking your fish to death.

I got mine for 50 bucks i think? A really good deal. It comes empty and I get my refills for 10 bucks at a place nearby. Couldnt ask for a better situation.
