Cold unfiltered office bowl?

fellas, for work i would just get this instead of having a halfass tiny fishbowl with real fish. I have one at work, and it's very cool.

just make sure you put a few drops of liquid soap in there(ironic huh) otherwise the fish will just float at the top all the time.

k guys settle down. i would never keep a betta in cold water- mine is in a 20 gal heat filter etc! I wasn't sure about the fish being a possibility or not . . . hense the question before purchase- nor did i set a limit on the size lest that it fit on my desk,

i think i'm going to do a snail in 2 gallons w/ UGF

you can be sure i will do my best not to mistreat any creature i undertake caring for!

yeah for the love of god a betta should never be kept in anything short of a 125 gallon tank with dual sumps a protien skimmer and uvfilter with metal halide lighting. anything else is just teasing it.

jeeze i mean come on now

what about a smaller feeder goldfish? those are hardy.. they seem to be fine wherever you throw em. just make sure to take good care of the fellow if you put him in the bowl!

about bettas, in my experience (i've had 3) one was kept in a small container. to be honest he did better in there than in my 10g (where he ended up hiding in corners anyhow).

i'm not sure what others think, not attempting to get bashed here but i think a betta would be fine in a bowl as long as the room temperature is reasonable and you feed him well- providing it's not a really tiny bowl.

also, keep in mind you can buy a small, slightly larger pastic tank and simply hook an air pump up- attaching one of those filters that runs off of it. that way you have some air circulation and filtration.. plus the added lid, which would allow for something like an aquatic froggy. those, i can imagine, would cheer someone up in the office because of their silly antics.

Make sure you have a real plant. That way the plant will take up the amonia, and you will have to do less water changes. Maybe more like every 3 days or so. Stick with one betta, and make sure the vase is big enough for the fish to swim around.

Edit:
Sorry... jumped the gun. I see others got on the bowl thing. Next time I will read to the end of the thread before freaking out.

I have a betta and 2 otto's in a 10G with heater and sponge filter. It's quiet, soothing, and fun to watch him attack the bubbles. He is much much happier than in a small bowl or even the 2.5 he was in when we got him home.
