Cold unfiltered office bowl?

yeah for the love of god a betta should never be kept in anything short of a 125 gallon tank with dual sumps a protien skimmer and uvfilter with metal halide lighting. anything else is just teasing it.

jeeze i mean come on now

Well whats a uvfilter ? Oh and the MH might be too bright for a bettas eyes so i wouldnt recommend them !!! ;) :joke:

what about a smaller feeder goldfish? those are hardy.. they seem to be fine wherever you throw em. just make sure to take good care of the fellow if you put him in the bowl!
NONONONONONNONONONONON NO NO NON NONONONONONO
And theeeen NOOOOO!!!!

At one point in thier life a greatwhite shark is small. That doesnt mean they can be put into a 1 gallon bowl and throw in a little nacl and your good to go. Please research a little bit before offering advice. Those fish can get over a foot long(so Ive seen a lot of differing numbers on that, 14" is a low ball figure) and live up to 20 years, sometimes more. If thye live 5 years in a cramped little bowl, that is hardley fine.

I agree that one of those minibow 2.5s is a good price and will house a betta and a snail or a few shrimpies if provided a heater.

:thud: Nope..won't bash you ove the betta comment...but this isn't a real good piece of advice. Goldfish get huge...20/30 gallon of tank waterspace per fish huge at least

I'm aware they get large- i've had a few myself that have reached about 8 inches. That was fun

Anyhow, I was pretty sure that some of them stayed small, perhaps i was wrong? As i've stated before im quite the beginner myself and im not afraid to admit it. My advice flat out sucks sometimes :).

If I was you I would do something that looks like this with a betta.

Make sure you have a real plant. That way the plant will take up the amonia, and you will have to do less water changes. Maybe more like every 3 days or so. Stick with one betta, and make sure the vase is big enough for the fish to swim around.

THIS IDEA IS HORRID!!!!!!!

because of this i have come up with a differnt style Betta bowl with plants that i kept at my office. it's a 1 gallon bowl with a the top as the widest section, cover with a lid. small heater can be used from Hydor, keeps the temp near 77 degrees in an cold office enviorment. can be filtered or unfiltered. I've been hesitant to post them here till i had a few other models made since i sell them. i can uplaod a few into the SALE section. The Bettas sem to love the tank as everyone of them has bubbled there little hearts out.

ok, i got one that's photo ready for here now the other files need to be shrunk to add to this later.

Well Last night Kamakazi- my male sword tail made the decition for me. (named so b/c he jumped out of bucket during 30 min acclimation twice)

He has been in the tank for a while but he must be reaching an age of aggression b/c when i got home Hiawatha (betta) had so serious nipp marks on fins and as i watched i found "who done it".

So today at lunch break bought 10 gallon and hood and sponge filter and heater and Hiawatha will make a special trip to the office on saterday. after a while i'll get him some oto's or a couple shrimp.

Sounds great. My betta is in a 10G and very active - majestically, "finflowingly" swimming around the whole tank all day - with the usual "beg for food breaks" in between - very fun and relaxing to watch.
