Coming back.....

This is a cool looking group(music stinks though, lol):

According to the conversion, it should be around 118gal. Is that too many for his tank? He's stating it to have abobut 70 fish using a cannister filter whereas I would be using a wet/dry. Again, sorry for the goofy music in the vid, lol.

I like that Moorii. How about the Moorii Kaiser II?

No, Pittbull is not talking about these Moorii. Tropheus moorii as the Kaiser II and the others, are from Lake Tanganyika and not from Lake Malawi as the mbuna are. IMHO, I wouldn't mix them together.
Pitt is talking about the Moori Dolphin (Cyrtocara moorii), an hap from Malawi that can be mixed with mbuna more easily in a large tank.

Thanks Efors..

Not the Tang Moori these guys will need to have a setup of their own I was talking about the C. Moori which get pretty big and a Nochual hump on their head..

thanks for the info. I was aware they were from another lake, but was just looking for something different as well. I had seen some mix lakes before as maybe one or two strays, but just wasn't sure of the compatibility of some over others...thanks for the heads up. I definitely don't want to buy something just to send it to the grave.

Know the feeling my back hurts thinking of the 265gal i am getting..

I find that thing to be way off when it comes to stocking mbuna. Also remember that with mbuna you are going to want to over stock a bit to disperse aggression. Bumble bees get pretty big for mbuna and might be throwing off the results a bit. I dunno.

Also a heads up that bumble bees can be pretty nasty and may not like the similar barring of the demasoni. Another thing I will point out is only the males of Met. greshakei are light blue with a red top. Females are brown to a pinkish brown. Better quality females tend to have an orange top. So you'll have 1 male and 6 brown females. If you're fine with that then great!
I'd suggest with your group Ps acei. A nice large school of them would look awesome in a tank that size.

I'll be keeping this thread to document the tank aquascaping and growth. In the mean time, I'm trying to plan ahead for the stocking. I observed another thread where I saw the link http://www.aqadvisor.com/ suggested by wespastor for stocking suggestions. On the stocking, it stated to keep Mbunas 100% over stocking for their aggression. So if it's suggesting with 40 cichlids I'm currently at 100%, are they then stating I should have 80?

Here it is stating I'm at an estimated 91% capacity.

That just doesn't seem like much for a 180gal setup.....or is it just me?

Hey Chunk:

Have you logged onto that forum with the stocking tool to get some feed back directly from the group there about the stocking levels?

That tool is very user interactive. and with feed back from the users ... like this mentioned in this thread, in and on their forum, changes can be made to reflect what ppls experiences really are.

A tool is only as good as the information provided.

One also needs to use a little logic with the tool as well. For example: I have planted tanks, with that in mind I can go to about 150%stocking level according to the tools calculations and still be OK be cause the tool does NOT factor in the plants ability to eliminate amonia waist.

Is all realative.

It's all good.

It all just a pratice.

I'm waitin' on those pix :headbang2:

Best wishes,
Wes

I see you're from San Antonio, not sure if you're familiar with Dave's Rare Aquarium Fish, but he's got a ton of great african cichlids for sale. He's located on the NE side of town. Also, the Hill Country Cichlid Club is going to be having the fall auction on Oct 3rd. Not sure if you'd be set up in time for that, but there are some great deals to be had with high quality cichlids at those auctions.
