Conflicting ideas on Discus food.....

Hi Becky,

you can feed all colors of Discus with the color bits, no problem.

EXCEPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the yellow, most of those (the yellow) need a liver based food to stay Yellow,

Hans

i agree, yellows will turn into a creamsicle orange color, especially the albino yellows. although i have never had a problem keeping them yellow on the non-color enhancing foods.

So how do I keep the albino yellow discus from not eating the colorbits? Or should I not feed the bits all-together? Can all discus be on a liver based food? And what specific brand would you suggest for a liver based food? I've never seen that before...

I planned to feed the colorbits mixed in between blood worms, fbw, fbs, and fbh as well as some homemade bh if I felt ambitious :)

So hmm.. I'm not sure what to do. I REALLY want the yellow to stay super yellow but I also want the oranges, reds, and blues to stay bright. The bits don't affect the blue coloration? Just yellow?

You can try Kens Liver Flake

This is why I made my comment about something to consider when you have various strains in the same tank. You have to be conscious about their diet as well. From my experience, I've changed non albino yellow discus to orange when I fed them lots of colorbits.

For discus, would you also suggest these?

"
KENS PREMIUM SPIRULINA + FLAKE WITH GARLIC & PAPRIKA"
"KENS PREMIUM BEEFHEART FLAKE"

If I order the Liver Flake, I might as well save on shipping and get some others... has anyone had experience with these and/or are they suitable for discus? I know that discus looove garlic and I've heard of Paprika being used in homemade recipes. Thoughts? Do those two work with yellow discus, as well?

Sorry to take over a thread! I hope this helps some other people, too.
