hmm, it is very true that sw is noticeably more expensive..

being 15 and not working, supporting a saltwater tank puts a nice big hole in your wallet. for every 5 water changes I do, I spend about 10$ for the salt and some more for R.O. water ( dont have one myself)

A couple of weeks ago, I spent 15 dollars on saltwater livestock.. I bought a fish and two other invertibrates.. heh, the fish alone was 6$ ( a yellow-tail damsel if any of you were wondering)

Im in the process of converting my 10gallon nano saltwater tank into a heavily planted 10g.. Mostly neons and a pleco.. not sure yet

cycling depends on alot of factors.. heh

I am glad that you took the oscars back to the store. Everyone is much better off this way. Dropping guppies in water that had any kind of ammonia or nitrite reading is not a good idea but what is done is done. Now just keep on top of the large water changes until your levels reach 0 and then get into a regular routine with the water changes and you should be fine.

OK well, they did last the night, and they are swiming around alot... I am currently at work, and plan on returning home later this evening to do another water change of 50-70%....

unfortunately, mvigor is correct..you will need to do a massive water change and may have to do another massive warter change after the first one.
and again tomorrow..waiting will only make the water change even larger or subject your fish to permanent damage.

mzaltadena admitted that she may have been a little tipsy when she purchased the oscars..so that may have had some influence on her decision at the time of purchase.

Guppies Water

I did another water change my amonia is at .25, but I still show some nitrate at 20 and nitrite at 0.5

It looks like your cycle is getting near the end. Your nitrItes and ammonia are still at dangerous levels. What amount of water change did you do? If the water change was done yesterday, I'd do another one today. Are you using a gravel vac to clean your gravel?

I did a 50% water change. I will do another change today, and yes I am using a gravel vac to clean my gravel...

keep up the good work..you are showing readings of nitrite..your ammonia should drop to 0 soon then keep the nitrites below .25 and all is well..nitrates should go down with water changes when you control nitrites.
when the nitrites go to 0 you are done with the cycle. you still need to do water changes but they won't need to happen quite as frequently. :thm:

Uh OH

I did a 60% water change last night, I have not checked my levels yet, but I will when I get home from work tonight....

Question....

After I did my water change, I completly forgot to turn the filter and heater back on. When I realized I had forgot, it was already morning...my temp has gone down from 80 to 72..... The fish seemed to be swiming towards the bottom of the tank, so I tried feeding them, and they ate like normal. Have I harmed my fish?

Depends on what you have in your tank. They would have probably shown effects of the heater being off in the morning, your probably ok.
