With sand substrates you just need to swish water to kick up the mulm & siphon off with a hose - remove the rigid portion of your gravel vac & just use the flexible hose. A turkey baster helps to swish water around.
The lights came in today! We checked to make sure they were working but we aren't going to put them on the tank yet. Here's a picture of the tank the way it is right now and the lights that came today.
lol I'll have to get the new substrate and more rocks first. Still trying to figure out what sand type substrate is best. They recommend course sand for the plants I want but I haven't been able to figure out what classifies as course sand.
Just thought I'd give everyone an update on how things are going with the tank transformation. I ordered the sand for it yesterday and they said it would be in on Friday.
Today I went to another LFS and found a piece of Malaysian drift wood that I think will look good in the tank. What do you guys think?
