Guy gave me a 30gal tank stand hood lights for free...he used it for a snake, well I emptied snake skin, snake crap, dead mice from it, and all the other crap...and washed it out...it stinks bad, what should I do to get it ready for freshwater? And to get this stink out

After cleaning it be sure to go over the silicone sealing real well it may of dried out and need to be replaced.

i would double check that it is indeed an aquarium and not a snake tank. tanks made specifically for snakes/reptiles/etc are not strong enough to be full of water. the glass is too thin.

You probably need to replace the silicone. I just bought a tank previously used as a reptile tank and the silicone was all discoloured and flimsy. Gl

it holding water for 10 minutes is not the same as long term stress on the glass and seals from the water pushing against the glass and seals. for safety's sake, i would confirm with the seller of the tank where they got it, and whether it is truly an aquarium or not.
