Converting to a planted tank

I will pimp snail_chen in the marketplace here. He's in New Jersey, tons of gorgeous plants - check out his FS thread. I just placed an order, spent about half the cost than if I would have found (difficult) & bought locally! Sorry I didn't compare your list to what I saw on the thread... I'm getting HM, didiplis diandra, rotala indica (true, not rotundifolia), DHG (submersed growth - yay), & some marsilea minuta. Whee~!

I would recommend the Nutrafin CO2 system... It costs a little more, but looks a lot neater and saves you the hassle of having to find all the right/matching parts.

So today I finally recieved my glass top, a pre filter for my Aqueon (I bought a fluval edge prefilter, after some meausuring I figured out it was the perfect width and length for the intake), root tabs&ferts, extra thermometer, and my tools for pruning the future plants.

There's a really cool thread on aquatic plant central that shows how to do a DIY CO2 setup using an inexpensive internal filter from Petco. I think I'll be trying this out soon. Here's the link:

I was thinking about doing something like that after I did some youtube research. :) But I think after I get back from the family reunion this weekend I'm going to try the DIY CO2 one more time if it doesn't work I will just hold anymore buying of plants til I get the pressurized system.

Hey do you know if chlorine in your water kills the yeast?anyone?

my water smells like straight chlorine out of the tap and i still got co2 production while using it. the levels my municipality uses of chloramine are pretty high too, so i wouldn't worry about that.

You might want to try proofing the yeast (google "proofing yeast" for a how-to). Proofing is just a way to make sure that the yeast is active.
If you're worried about chlorine affecting your yeast, leaving the water out overnight will let most of the chlorine evaporate. I always used water straight from the tap for my DIY CO2 and had no problems. Then again, the chlorine levels weren't very high in my tap water.

Ok I'll try proofing the yeast but the few plants I recieved from Chrisinator are doing fine with out it for now. I know they aren't asian but they will be moved to another tank soon. I have been a bit busy lately but I should soon get the system after I pay my car insurance almost forgot about that lol that would've been bad. But I just want to apologize for the slow speed of this project. Hope to have something for you guys soon. :)
