Converting to a planted tank

they'd much rather be in the substrate most of the time. because of that they happen to stir it up well. this minimizes your chances of developing anaerobic pockets that can fill with hydrogen sulphide and possibly other gases that can prove deadly if they release into the water column (which they eventually do if left to do so).

actually they can keep plant roots from suffocating and/or succumbing to the gases. as well, with heavier substrates they can keep it loose enough it doesn't crush delicate roots.

Ok these are the plants I've found so far. Please let me know if it's too many of a specific type or if I should get more of one.

Aponogeton ulvaceus 1
Hygrophila difformis 4
Cryptocoryne undulata 8-12
Java fern 3
Orchid Lily (Barclaya longifolia) 1
Marimo 3
Giant Red Rotala (Rotala macrandra) 3
Rotala rotundifolia 3
Riccia fluitans 7 portions
Limnophilia hippuroides(Pink Hippo Grass) 2

So far the total for this list is about $73.73 w/o shipping
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Stuff I still havn't been able to locate. If you have any ideas of where I can get these or the amounts I should get please let me know.

Crypt Beckettii (Cryptocoryne beckettii)
Cryptocoryne parva
Eriocaulon cinereum
Nymphaea stellata
Limnophila aromatica
Ceratophyllum submersum
Utricularia graminifolia

i'd cut the undulatas down to 6 at most and the riccia down to 1 or 2. if you float that riccia for a bit you'll have more than you'll ever need in a couple months. other than that i might throw a sword or a handful of vals in there for a filler for now and grow everything out. once you have enough to trade and see something you really want try to make a deal... or sell some and buy some.
