I've got 2 three or so inch african cichlids in my 29g with a fairly large convict(about 7-8x larger then the africans in total mass) but my blue african( not exactly sure of its species) keeps beating on the convict =O. For a while, the convict was the boss, he would chase the other 2 whenever they got near his territory, but now, the blue one goes right up, nips his fins, and tails it before the convict can do anything. The convicts fins are getting worse every day, but the bites are so small, it isn't doing a whole lot of damage. The only reason the convict is in the tank, is because my mother had it in her grotesque 10g (all alone, no decor/plants, and completely covered in algea) and it looked pretty near death, so I wanted to save it. It seems to be doing extremely well now, very dark stripes, and really active, but I'm a bit worried the african will kill him once he's a little larger. Any advice?

Agreed, I dont know what kind of africans you have, but I know some will attack other fish of the same color...it would be a good idea to separate them

It's not recommended to mix old world (African) and new world (convicts). The African cichlids will eventually kill that convict. No matter how bad *** you think that convict is, Africans are meaner and badder! :)

Did you bother to research either of those fish before you bought them? They have completely different requirements. Not to mention the inadequate size of the tank you are housing them in. Convicts can get along fine in a 29 but unless your Africans are shell dwellers, you need to get them back to whatever store sold you them. And if they are shell dwellers, make a choice between convicts OR Africans and get rid of the other.
