I cant belive people still think severums were involved in creating BP's.

Any pics of the conxjags, I have seen some cool looking jag x texas.

Well Professor Haggisman, although I'd like to see some of your 'picture proof' (of god knows what generation of fry) for the BP's not being half Severum, ...but I think I will follow the genetic break down of the BP which was explained at my university.

I'll leave you to your game of playing god now...

Pleco, I don't know why your so up in arms; nobody's being mean or rude to you.

What fish are you refering to? The parrots or the ConvictXmanaguense?

Either way, I don't think the two species that produced these hybrid cross in the wild. Probably the only reason they do it in the tank is because there are none of their own species.

Yap, you got it.
Species that are easy to bred (such as Central American cichlids) may cross breed when put in an artificial env. and have no compatable mates of the same species.
A lot of the material I have read says that cross breeding in virtually non-existant in the world. It's very very rare.
My friend actually did an experiement for school ( I got to help! Go me!!). I have a full grown Convict Cichlid (male) and Medium sized Jack Dempsey(female) that ALWAYS try to breed with each other. So annoying!! lol...
Anyways...for the experiement, my friend bought a full grown female Convict. We had her in a seperate tank. We waited for the male Convict and female Dempsey to be fairly far into their courtship. The female was ready to lay eggs. Before she actually did...we introduced the female Convict....

At first the two defended their nest against this new intruder...but the male Convict noticed it was a female Convict. Even though the female Dempsey was full of roe and rdy to spawn (they were both in the large clay pot)...it took the male Convict less than 2 mins to leave her and begin courting with the female Convict. Now he chases the female Dempsey away - as he is building a nest with his new girlfriend, of the same species, lol. :P
