I just noticed my cory cat is swimming very slowly, near the top of the water, which he never does and when i took a closer look, his barbels is missing! looks more like its rotted.. If someone can tell me what this can be, or what i can treat my fish with then im on my way to the pet store.

Also, my angel fishes have a white film all over them, i added some aquarium salt to the water. Nothing worked.

water Parameters are:
PH 7.2
AMMONIA 0.25
NITRATE 5
NITRITE 0

sounds like fin rot to me....catch it fast...it killed my betta and had no fins at all in a short amount of time.....just make sure you can use whatever you get on corys....not sure if the are the same as fish as far as treating....good luck with the angels also....fin rot gets kind of fuzzy and wispy.....

Thanks for your quick reply.. will fungus remover do the trick? for the cory and angel fish, speaking of this rot i think all my fishes have it! the white film.

im not sure....i had special fin rot medicine for betta fish and i know there are special meds out there......read the package but i would suggest getting specific meds for it and make sure thats what it is....take a fish to your LFS to double check but if it is fin rot you need to jump on it cuz its very rare for fish to survive it. research it on the web as far as meds and advice....good luck....hope you have better luck than i did :thm:

I read online that fin rot and fin fungus should be treated with fungus eliminator.. I could not find anything else at the store. so im hoping this will work. My cory is beginning to start dropping on its sides. Will i need to euthanize him?

do a 50% or more water change before anything else...your ammonia is above 0. even if you have a product like ammolock, you likely need a water change anyway.

do not use copper with cories, if i remember correctly.

what is the water temp and how long has the tank been set up?

We did a water change yesterday. 20% water change weekly. The tank has been up for 3 months. Was cycled 6 weeks before adding any fish. Water temperature is 76 at all times.

I did euthanize him.. I really dont believe he would make it. There was nothing left of his mouth, very weak. Began flipping over on the sides =(

My guppy died right after i added the fungus eliminator and algae remover. =(

We just bought the guppies over the weekend. Before that, all fish were healthy.

very sorry to hear that! keep a close eye on the rest of your fish. also, don't add any more until that ammonia gets down to 0.

also, i do at least 20% weekly...for a healthy tank. doyou still have white film on your fish? if so, try to do water changes every other day until it gets under control. also, post on this issue if you haven't already. to me, that sounds like bacterial slime but i can easily be wrong!

good luck.

:( I know.. This is fin rot. I noticed my angel fish today with a white spot on her left fin. She isnt using it at all to swim either. I dont want to lose any of my angels =( after adding the fungus eliminator, and changing another 20% of the water today, looks like the film is slowly going away, but im scared for that little fin. what to do now?
