I got 10g that has 3 guppies. I read online and talked to the guy at the store about my guppies not eating the food that falls to the bottom plus i wanted a bottom dweller cus the guppies stay at the top and mid.
But anyway I got a spotted Cory catfish and acclimated him to the tank for about 25 mins then released him. Now he just lays on the bottom of the tank! he didn't move he would swim a little then lay back down. I thought he was dead this morning so i went to net him and he took, off after watching he is still breathing just not active at all. After testing the water the PH is at 8? is that to high? The guppies have been fine for the 3 weeks they have been in there at the same PH.

what should i do? Is the PH to high? are my lvls ok?

stats: 10g
filter and heater
3 guppies and fake plants

water: 78 degrees F
PH-8
NH3-0.25
NO2-0
NO3-0

You're ph is just fine. Cories are characters and will even sleep on their sides to really appear dead! Many of us, including me, have sadly picked up the net to retrieve our little dead cory out....only to have them scamper away like their tails on fire! For one thing, he needs some time to adjust to his new surroundings. And they don't like to be alone. They enjoy their own company tremendously. While groups of 6 are often suggested, with your small tank I would say you could keep two of them. Can you get another one for him to pal with? I have been keeping 2 in one of my tanks, not wanting to mix another variety of catfish in that tank and even though they are both male, they hang out together all the time, they do their little midwater dances together...whatever that means. They are happy with each other.

And welcome to AC!!!

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking of getting another one after reading more about them and with only 3 others and the Cory it is no problem with adding another.

Is the tank not cycled? Why do you have ammonia?

it should be 0-0.25 that is how the chart reads sorry. ya it is cycled its been up for 3 weeks now and the guppies have been in there for almost the whole time. I have only done 1 or 2 small water changes to make sure that i keep Bactria in there.

Okay, I just wanted to make sure. Even if ammonia is very low, constant exposure to it cause fish to become ill, and then you'll start seeing little strange symptoms of illness popping up.

It is a good idea, as you suggested, to buy him a buddy or two.

Ok so I got him a friend and now they are both just laying on the gravel, They have swam a little and now are just chilln with each other on the bottom of the tank not moving.

ya about 3 weeks give or take a day i tested the levle agian and it was they are the same the PH is still at 8. everything else is at 0.
