CP terrarium thread, continued

You know what that means...its coming to the end of the buying season.:shakehead:

Yeah, at this point in the year you pretty much have to rely on getting new plants in trades or through other hobbyists looking to thin out their collection...next year I will have to try to break the bank sooner :D

I wanted to get N. ramispina and burkei. All I can do know is sit and you for trades or giveaways.

I'm getting a new plug of U. graminifolia from mass, along with lang arm capillaris seeds and some Sphagnum. I think it's safe to say I have a pretty solid temperate collection.

My N. x ventrata seems to be liking the windowsill in the new apartment. It's opening new leaves, no more burned developing pitchers, and another basal has showed up. It needs to make more pitcher, not basals, I have plenty of those. Also found a dried sprig of Sphagnum rubellum in my camera bag. I put it in a pot of wet peat and sand and it's starting to rehydrate. I love how durable this stuff is!

I also have a new project you guys might be interested in. I'm mapping the vein patterns in S. purpurea and rosea to see if there's a consistent pattern. So far I've found that southern purps have a hexagonal fractal pattern in their hoods. Northern purps have a very different veining pattern, which looks to be pentagonal from what I've seen so far. S. rosea is completely different from either, convincing me even further that it's a separate species. This might be what people have been looking for to verify subspecies, but I can't guarantee it. Not too shabby for an art major, huh?

Sounds really cool, DP! Good luck with the project.

Question? Do you want wild purps and/or purps from who knows where? I've been meaning to go to webbs mill bog, but haven't had the time. Soon though, when NJ dries out a little bit more. Anywhoo count me in!

Speaking of trades... I put up a thread on TF asking for advice on taking cuttings from my copelandii. One of the members there offered me to trade a clipping of the copelandii for one of n. ventrata, and one of n. red leopard. I can't wait to get them! I set up a 10g terrrarium to keep the humidity as high as possible to grow the clippings in until they root.

Well, I feel a little guilty, but I took the razor blade to it...

The vine I cut off was almost 23". The biggest pitcher just under half that. I still feel a little bad about chopping it up.
