Crazy Betta Darting Around

I'm treating him for infection. The vase is a gallon, I am very busy to do 3 water changes a week. I never had this problem with one of my older bettas which lived in a gallon vase for 5 years. Test kits are not cheap where I live and well I don't know how to use them.

I'm not sure what to tell you. You asked why, we gave you the answers. They deserve the best quality water you can give them. It doesn't take but about 10 minutes or less to change the water on a couple of vases. The test kits are not cheap, right, but they are an extremely valuable tool to fish keeping. They come with instructions that are so very, very easy to follow. Not a big deal really and well worth the $30 investment that will last a few years (as said above). It will be something you could use on all your tanks, not just the betta vases.

Because he is going insane. I honestly think you need to visit Walmart or something and go get a 10Gal (roughly $12) and an airstone. The betta will be MUCH better off in the 10 (even without a filter, short term), if you only plan on doing 2-3 water changes a week. If you don't have the $, you shouldn't keep fish. It is not fair to the fish to suffer from chemical burns and insanity from being cramped in a tiny tank.

I can get a 10 gallon at petco.. I dont trust Wal mart tanks. I had fish around me since I was 2, I have a 37 gallon tank, which is overstock due to my swordtail fry, with a fungus problem which is being treated. I already spent over 300 dollars alone on all of my fish which is very crazy.

I ten gallon at petco only costs $10 with the pals card so I can do that and get a filter. but first I have to find dividers

I got my bettas from a wedding gift.. Real tacky if you ask me. I actually didn't win them, I took them from other people who I knew wouldn't care for them. Anyways, I ended up getting a few more since females kept together need a group. Now I have 5 in a 12 Gal tank. Pretty much treat them like most other fish and they do well. They seem to feel much better when there is an individual place for them to hide (ie, thick vegetation or rock structure). During feeding, they all come out to play, always curious. Keep temperature steady and filter the tank they will do great!

I buy most of my bettas at Petco. Planing for a larger tank, Right now I have a 5 gallon fulval chi which can't be divided. I have 5 males and 1 female [female betta is in my 37 gallon]. I had bettas for a very long time, i guess since i was 6.

how the heck have you gotten away with only spending 300 on your fish???? tell me your secret! lol. 300 is chump change. just one of my tanks cost more than that, not including the canister filter or the hob filter (both of those together were about 300, lol!).

even a clean (never had soap or chemicals in it) rubbermaid bin would be way better than a 1 gallon vase. the more water volume you have to work with, the more dilution of wastes between water changes.

The meds and filters are not cheap and some of the fish I have cost over $10. I have $200 worth of fish in my 37 gallon. The tank has a MarineLand filter, which the refills for the carbon are not cheap.

The water in the Vase are clear, my bettas eat all the food I give them. I give them about 3-5 pellets every day.

clear water does not always denote clean water. there can be a lot of ammonia there with the water still clear. the hazy water is when you have a bacterial bloom going on, and in a bowl setting with no filter, you won't get that bacterial bloom like you would in a filtered environment, because there isn't any oxygen rich water passing by porous material (filter sponges, etc) to get the bacteria population started (aka bloom).
