It's sad this stuff goes on, but why do "secrets" have to be freely advertized? Guess now the next boat of terrorists, or so called pirates will fist take down the satellite dish looking sonic weapon.

Amazing this weapon has enough power to knock them off their feet..

I don't think that would do much good--the thing is the size of a satellite dish, not necessarily the shape or appearance as one. There are a lot of sonic weapons in development right now--pretty cool option.

I will say, it's really more disturbing to me that piracy is still an active vocation!

Unfortunately, current defensive tactics are oriented towards driving the pirates away and/or deterring their attacks in the first place, which leaves the bad guys alive to try, try again.

If it were up to me, I'd deploy a flotilla of Q-ships; slow-moving, juicy-looking targets armed with lethal weapons, and then blow the pirates out of the water when they made their move. Wouldn't take much; a Phalanx CIWS ought to do the job quite adequately.

Eventually, as the number of pirates mysteriously disappearing without a trace began to climb, piracy would lose its appeal as a career choice. Most of them are, after all, just in it for the money.

I agree with you about the disclosure of sensitive information but I don't think that the device in question (an LRAD) is particularly secret, even though many of us may not have heard of it before.

Piracy - nothing more, so to speak, than carjacking conducted at sea - remains a major problem worldwide; "hotspots" include the waters about South America, the Horn of Africa, and Southeast Asia.

I'm guessing one or several bullet rounds would disable the satellite dishes transmitter in the center of it. That's what I meant by "take down"...

Modern day pirates seek out private sailboats off the Bahamas repeatedly. I would never sail a smaller 'vessel' without weapons off Florida on the Atlantic side. The Gulf side is rather quiet. Some like to blame the Bermuda Triangle. Vacationers on resorts in the islands have been robbed when straying past the resort boundaries. Anyway, adrift, empty sailboats are not that strange even now..

I can see how they might get away with private sailboats, but a CRUISE SHIP?! Just where did they think they would take it that it wouldn't be noticed. And how were they gonna get rid of all the people without a big investigation? Morons. . . . that's like stealing a greyhound bus full of people instead of an empty sports car with the keys still in it. :p:

They weren't trying to steal the vessel, they intended to rob it, and all the passengers for any goods they had onboard.
