crushed coral

really it's important to know all three, KH, GH, PH b/c you can have a lot of variance

for example my water comes out of the tap at 7.2-7.6 the GH is 8-10 degrees, and my KH is 2-3 degrees- that's really low and if you didn't know the GH was fairly high you'd think my PH should be much lower. . .

I'm trying to tinker with my water chemistry right now too b/c i'm injecting CO2 and afraid of exceeding the buffering capacity

I've bought some crushed soral and am wondering how to administer it too so far it seems friom my other research that if your carbonate hardness is at a certain level it won't do anything except take up space in your filter and when your KH is low it will disolve until it reaches the high point again

but like i said i'm still reseaching so lets wait for someone with expirience to weigh in

my PH is high out of the tap but drops rapidly due to conditions in my planted tank. Using crushed coral I can keep it around 7.2-7.4 depending on the flow of water through it. It should still only dissolve at a speed in relation to PH and KH.

But if your PH is dropping too fast it seems I can increase the PH higher by having more flow through the coral.

For example witha bio bag of crushed coral in my whisper 10i I could achieve a PH of 7.0 and it took quite some time to change when I first put it into the tank.

When I increased the amount of crushed coral and put it in my fluval 204 my PH is now around 7.2-7.4

My PH out of tap is about 7.6 so I am avoiding a fluctuation of 6.0 to 7.x for water changes, instead it is only a fraction off.
