really it's important to know all three, KH, GH, PH b/c you can have a lot of variance
for example my water comes out of the tap at 7.2-7.6 the GH is 8-10 degrees, and my KH is 2-3 degrees- that's really low and if you didn't know the GH was fairly high you'd think my PH should be much lower. . .
I'm trying to tinker with my water chemistry right now too b/c i'm injecting CO2 and afraid of exceeding the buffering capacity
I've bought some crushed soral and am wondering how to administer it too so far it seems friom my other research that if your carbonate hardness is at a certain level it won't do anything except take up space in your filter and when your KH is low it will disolve until it reaches the high point again
but like i said i'm still reseaching so lets wait for someone with expirience to weigh in
