Crushed tumbled glass gravel substrate (great for lighting effects?)

i was planning on just normal gravel sized. As the tank ages, i dont see the glass getting stained so much as just being dirty. If you have clear, i can see there being issues with debris over time.

The issue with debris is not that the glass will look dirty, or you'll see the debris. The issue is that the debris will stay where it is, in the substrate, and decompose. That's one reason a lot of people(like myself) prefer sand; Debris stays on top for the most part, and when it comes to estes marine sand I can vac it like gravel anyway.

Sand always looks dirty....

it would be cool if you had the lights on the bottom change color over time in diferent places like a light show.

Make sure you wash, wash, wash it really good... Stray glass particles sure would do lovely work to the insides of your fish.

well i can, thats the awesome part

dude that is so awsome! you definatly have to post it on youtube and pm me a link to it if you do make it

the shards arent stray, these glass pieces are tumbled so that they have rounded edges. I dont plan on getting the fine, i dont even reallylike the look of it.....crappy blue sand or whatever to me. I think i said it above, i plan to get standard gravel sized particles so that the fishes will be ok. Their safety is a major concern of mine and i wouldnt do anything to jepordize that, even for looks. I am pretty delicate where i need to be and i wont be letting my guard down here either.

Pics will most definitly be posted when i do the project. My guess is by late august the tank, whichever one it is will be up and running. I am looking at the dark blue as seen here http://americanspecialtyglass.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=7

I wanted the teal, but i fear that its light color wont lend itself well color scheming. The darker blue should be better i think. My mind hasnt been completely made up as i have time to decide. I am still trying to figure out what i plan on adding to the tank in its entirety. Alot of decisions to be made.

if you look at the brochure underneath the aquarium section, that mix of glass is what w ould want to go for. I think it looks pretty. I would only do one volor to be economical. BUT, this is way too kool to skimp on
