Cutting Eheim Spraybar

I currently have the spray bar from my Eheim 2217 at a diagonal angle on the left side of my tank, blowing the water from left to right (intake is on the right).

But, most of my plants look like they have been swept to the right because of the force of the water. I want to have the spray bar horizontally across the side of the tank so the lower level plants (mostly crypts) are not battered so much, but currently the spray bar is too long.

If I cut it, besides probably increasing the force at which the water comes out, is there anything else I should worry about? I figure if I get annoyed with it I can always pick up a new spray bar.

before cutting or drilling you could also try draping a piece of blue-bonded pad over the tube with one end long enough to reach 1/2 inch into the water line below and the other end sewn around the spray-bar tube like slipping a curtain onto a curtain-rod the water will have no velocity hitting the water and provide a little wet/dry action.

If its still to strong then drill more holes and/or bigger holes.

Haven't used the bonded pad method but have increased the OD of the holes. This helped some, may try the the pads next filter cleaning since I have some on hand. Good luck.

In fact of its blue/white bonded pad you don't even have to sew a loop. All you have to do is start a hole opening-split between the blue and the white bond with a thin long screwdriver and push it carefully all the way through to the other side without getting too close to the end of the bonded pad hemline. Widen the split-hole as necessary and then push the spray-bar in widening the hole as necessary as you go in for however long and thick the spray-bar. About a 5 minute job if you have the bonded pad cut to size and ready to go.
