Cycling v2.0 What I'm planning to do.. Long post

Thankyou guys! Well got home tonight and did my readings. Ammonia was .3 ppm. I never took into account that the test tube was stained from previous tests so I did a pure tank water test vs. the chart to get a better reading and I'm pretty sure it's .3 ppm or less. My Nitrite was 10 ppm or more (over the limits of the test strips). My nitrates were at 40 ppm. I've taken my old filter pad out of the main tank now. Again I had it in the main tank with a bubble stone under it to try and bleed as much off it as I could. I just reseeded the tank with ammonia. I'm waiting on the results from that as I type this, but the amount I added should bring it up to 3ppm. The Nitrates have moved up abit and the Nitrites have peaked again. I may just ride this out :) .

I got the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Master Test Kit from Big Al's for $12.99.

I'm checking this out after this post. I've found the ammonia test was very easy to read. Anouther $13 won't set me back any. If the other tests are as simple I'm sure it'll be worth it. I can't really read the Red Sea ones with all the odd ways of reading the tubes, i.e. hold eight inches from a white back ground, look down the tube, ect.

Just did the retest after letting the water mix for 30 minutes. I'm at alittle less then 3 ppm ammonia and leaving it as is. I found a way to clean the test tube out using 4 q-tips and a pen cap :D so I'm better off there now. I went to Big Al's and found the AP test kit. With shipping it was less then $19 so I ordered it no big loss. I like my ammonia test kit which was, I think, $5.99 at the LFS so the whole kit wasn't a bad deal IMHO. I'm feeling optimistic for the first time since I started fishless cycling the tank. Hopefully in the next few days I'll get promising readings and can go about this as planned. As always thankyou so much! I wouldn't have gotten this far without the posters here at Aqaria Central. Even if just for emotional support ;) .

Just an FYI, it is worth the wait, I finally got to add fish last week, and put in a wild caught firemouth 3/4" a jack Dempsey 3/4", a 2.5" pictus, a 3" Royal pl*co, and can honestly say after a week this has been the most stress free (for me and the fish) fish adding period of my life. Even the baby royal acclimated quickly and all fish seem quite happy. Every test has come out exactly as I wanted it too since the nitrites dropped initially. I'd give it a few days, your nitrites will hold on and seem to stagnate, and then one day there will be none. I went from 10ppm to 0ppm in about 18 hours and everything has been awesome since.
