Daily Log of Constructing a Tropical Fish Pond

you have done a great job.... keep posts pics so we can watch the plant growth too.

Thanks for the complements everyone, it has been a long road. It really is coming together nicely and even my wife hinted that it looked ok (that is a big step!!) I did get some pics tonight. The plant growth is ok, not as fast as I expected. I am going to drop some ferts into the plant containers next week. The "california lilies" are showing good growth, a couple of leaves are floating now. I will post the pics tomorrow. I took pics of the water to show everyone how clear the water is.

Here are the pics I promised. In the third pic you can see a bunch of the fish. If you look by the log, the second branch, you will see the injured rosy and his white spots....you will also see a really fat gold barb near the rosy...
The second to last pic shows you how clear the water is. The water is about 25 inches deep and you can see the bottom no prob...

The rosy barb is on his way to recovery, today he is showing the first signs of healing so that is good. I have been looking for my male paradise fish for several days now...I found him today....dried up on land. He had nothing missing so it wasn't from predators, I still can figure out why he jumped out?? Are paradise fish good jumpers?? No wonder why the female paradise fish keeps looking around....she can't find her dude.

Wow, looks great! I'm not a landscape designer, but here's a few suggestions (it's fun to spend someone else's money!). I like the barrel, but it seems a bit small for the pond. Perhaps add a little scale by putting something tall behind it...some of those curly willow sticks or plant a natural grass behind it. I like the carpet rose(?), but not the container...not natural enough. Maybe extand a couple of pieces of drift wood to each side, drill some holes in them and plant moss or ferns. Maybe something that will cascade down to the pond. Perhpas add a few stones around the drift wood.
Whatever, it looks great. You've done a nice job. Besides..if the misses is happy, everyone's happy.

Yeah the area around the pond needs some attention, I am thinking next year for the landscaping.....I agree on the plant I have there right now. Its just there because it was laying around the yard! I guess this project will never end...once you take care of one thing, its on to the next!

The main thing is that it's a great centerpiece to add to for years to come...again, great job. Well you're 3 hours behind...so enjoy the evening...it's lights out for me.

Just a couple of lawn chairs and a Tiki-Hut Bar to properly enjoy the craftsmanship and fish!

Beautiful! :D

lousybreed..I started upstairs to bed and thought, man I hope he doesn't take that wrong...everyone's always a critic, right. It really does look great, and, I agree, a few lawn chairs and a cold one is all it really needs!

Don't worry!!! I like feedback so I can keep improving the pond.....

Not much to update. Next week sometime I will take another pic of the pond to see if much plant growth has occured. The injured rosy barb is nearing 100% healed and seems to be doing fine. I bet most of us wouldn't be doing so good if we were stuck between a rocks for 3-4 days!!!

I didnt read all of the pages ... and pages... and pages lol but ive been reading every now and then looking for pics, and I was wondering if there was filtration on the pond? Or is it just the barrel thing for circulation/oxygen?
