I have a tank with 4x neons and 3xzebra dainos. The dainos are nuts and always chasing my tetras along with each other. It doesnt appear that any of the fish have nipped fins but the tetras are constantly being chased as if they are being hunted. Should i be worried? Should i remove the dainos?

ps - this is a new tank(cycled)

Zebra danios are just like that... they are not hunting, they are playing, and IME you don't have anything to worry about! Good luck!!

While you don't have to worry about the danios hurting the neons by nipping, it can be stressful for the neons. I've gotten rid of all the danios I had, simply because they are ALWAYS zipping around, and calmer fish tend to be hide and avoid the danios. I'd watch the neons, and if they appear stressed, consider moving one or the other group.

What size tank is this? Because of the frenetic swimming, danios really do better in a larger setup than dictated by their size, simply so they have more room to play in, and the other fish have more space to avoid them.

That's your call. I did remove the danios--put them in a 20 gallon tank of their own--because they were just in there for some activity, which kept my center piece fish hidden all the time.

I only have one tank as i am in a college dorm. How much do you think the stress will affect the tetra's? They are more important to me as the dainos are a new addition. I was thinking about taking them back to the lfs and replacing them with guppies. The dainos were not nearly this active in there tank at the pet store, they seem to be crazed :-)

Neons are fairly sensitive to stress, IMO. It won't kill them anytime soon, but they will be generally more susceptible to ailments. Check with your LFS, they might take the danios back.

Im looking for a good 10 gallon fish that will go well with my neon tetras. I was thinking a couple male guppy's...I want something that is going to add alot of color without stressing out my neons, shrimp or baby pleco. Any suggestions?

I have 5 zebra danios with 5 smaller Palaetus cories. The danios add zip to the top part of the tank and the cories tend to the bottom. Might be a setup you would consider. Btw, the cories like a dark part of the tank where they can hide a bit.
