Darn cat...

Man I wish I had a picky cat. Duck will eat anything. He will dart and swipe from your plate. He made off with Dan's entire baked potato and a piece of pizza once. Not on the same occasion lol. The lid was left off the butter dish and Duck ate the whole stick, he will even get into the grease that is taken out of browning ground beef if it's left out. He eats out of his bowl too lol it's not like we starve him. We tried the wet food but holy moses was that a bad idea. We had to light a match every time he used the box. He switched to dry food without a hitch. We used to just put a bowl of food out for him, but he's a big fatty now. He's on a diet and he just got fixed...not a good week for Duckers :(

I'll have to get some updated pictures :)

sounds like our new kitten! this cat will eat ANYTHING! and, i have never seen a cat be food aggressive, yet he will hiss and snatch food ..its crazy!...and he can barely meow, but he trys when he knows i have food!

his favorite seems to be mashed potatoes?..wth?.. what cat eats mashed potatoes?..lol

Duck doesn't hiss just grab and go haha. His favorite is ham and if you get the ham out of the fridge he sits and meows and honest to goodness it sounds like he is saying HAAAAAM! HAAAAAAAM! HAAAAAAM!

I have to hide any meat i get out of the fridge until I start cooking it or until after i eat it.........

Trade cats anyone?J/K J/k, no one else shall have the privilege of dealing with my spoiled brat ;) I had given the food I mixed for her this morning to the ferals(which they ate) and about a half hour ago I mixed a large teaspoon of the beef and potatoes with a large teaspoon of tuna fish. She ate over half of it which surprised me, left the peas and potatoes of course and left some of the meet which looked like tuna to me cause the beef was more stringy but who know's. I stuck what she didn't eat in the fridge and I'll try again in a couple of hours. I really don't care if she eats the peas and potatoes, not sure why they're in there to begin with because cats are a carnivore not an omnivore but I want her to eat the rest of the meet.

I realize she's not going to wither away and I'm fully aware it's more painful for me than it is for her but I'm trying to be strong. It sure is hard though not to give into those big eyes and constant meowing.

we feed dry blue buffalo and add water to it. cats do not naturally have a lot of thirst drive so it is important to get water into them through their food. canned food is too pricey for us so we water down their dry food. works fine and they dont seem to mind it. it helped with our male cat's urinary tract issues.

Time and patience in changing foods is all that is required start out with a small amount of the new food mixed with the old and slowly up the percentage of the new food untill that is all they get. If they eat just the old food and leave the new stuff laying give them just the new stuff until they start eating it. If they are being picky wait them out 99% of animals will not starve themselves if they have food available (it may take a few days but don't give in at all no treats/additives etc. until they eat their dinner). As mentioned before warming can help but not always.

As far as how much to feed it depends on the food and the animal. generally start out with the manufacturers recommendations and then adjust to keep your animal in its optimum weight range.

Based on your user name, my cat is not suitable for homes with small rodents, else they become food to be played with, heck even medium rodents are lunch....

I found it's cheaper for me to grind my own raw mix than to stick with commercial foods (and healther, though it can get time consuming prepping it), it's just a matter of doing the research and finding meat on sale and through wholesalers.

I'm a firm believer animals can be switched to different food types, it just takes a lot of patience. My cats and ferrets were hardcore kibble eaters before I did the math and decided to go raw, and they were very picky at first...I had to start out with their original food, place the meat near it so they would associate it with their feeding space, then gradually mix it in over a period of weeks so the meat smelled like their EVO, then I could get away with just sprinkling some crumbs on top and they'd eat it all, and now they're picky the other way and prefer the meat. You could do the same with the meow mix she likes and the canned food, and hunger does help the process..but not for too long, cats can go into liver failure if starved for more than 24 hours.

My black lab Shadow has a cat named Sophie. Honest, she's his cat. Of course according to her it's her house and she graciously allows us to live there with her and take care of the drudgery for her; cleaning litter boxes, supplying food and water, playing with her, petting and scratching etc. She will eat anything Shadow eats, including his kibble. She's not particularly finicky but when I changed her dry food to what she eats now I had to do it gradually, mixing at first a small amount in with the other food then increasing the ratio daily.
