I'm thinking tonight after kids in bed, and house is restored to peace. I will put it in a pan of water and boil it for a long long time. That way if something is going to come out of it into the water it should happen at that point I would think.
If the smell is still there just as bad I will definately try the bleach tomorrow. I could soak it all day in bleach and water and rince it like 25 times and then if needed boil it again LOL.

sounds good just make sure you dont melt it, when finished if you are still not satisfied throw it in a tub of water outside and let it soak for a couple of weeks should be good to go more than likely its that new plastic smell kinda like rubber smells its just there like bike inner tubes smelly stuff aye..

Personally I wouldnt boil an item made in china with a strange chemical smell to it. You never know what chemicals that could leech out when boiled and vaporize into your air with the steam from boiling.

(kinda like rubber smells its just there like bike inner tubes smelly stuff) yeah like burning rubber tires is more the smell. And it's really strong.
The fact that it said made in China and smells like that made me mad. I never would of bought it if I had known before that. I try hard to stay away from all made in China since they try to poison everyone with lead.
It's not a painted decoration kinda like resin but not plastic (can't discribe it). They sell them at the LFS but that's not where I get it from.

do the ones at the LFS have the same smell? I try and stay away from chinese products of any kind but its hard since most everything comes from china. they mark alot of stuff as safe for this or that yet we have found out its not, by all the recalls of chinese made products and all the dogs made ill and died from food made with chinese ingredients. try and get a refund as it sounds to me its a defective product from the ebay seller. if they refuse file a complaint if you paid with paypal and ask for a refund due to the smell.

I know that smell, I ordered a small shelf with little "sitters" in it, it came from china in a white box, and it had that smell. It took several weeks for the smell to go away. I would just let it sit out in the air and sun and give it time, that's what I had to do.

Well I did boil it last night for quite a while and then let it sit out overnight and air dry. Today I can still faintly smell it but hardly at all. So I'm thinking 1 more boil like that and the smell should be gone and it should be safe after all of that LOL. It didn't melt so there's no problems there.

I went to the LFS today and just out of curiosity I smelled the vase at the store and it didn't smell at all. Since boiling helped so much I will do it again and the smell along with anything else should be gone.

that, my good man, is the smell of recycled rubber... it should be okay if you soak it into a small container for a little while
