Discus ill

for stress 1 tbl (table spoon)per 10 gallons

if these are young discus try bumping the feedings.
I feed juvies 4-6X daily
juvies have a high metabolism and will need lots of feedings.. their physiology makes them grazers..they have relatively large bodies with small stomachs.. so they look for food all the time.

I would recomend some angel plus deorming flakes if the fish are still eating. Secondly, your feeding regimine leaves a bit to be desired, frozen bloodworms are more of a treat than a staple. Be nice to see a beef heart flake, and a good pellet in the mix, I feed new life spectrum pellets, a special beef heart flake with garlic from a forum sponsor over at simly discus, as well as freeze dried black (not blood) worms. The discus go nuts for the blackworms and growth is phenominal.

They don't do angel plus flakes in the UK I don't think? Well Ive never seen them for sale. Again Ive never seen blackworms for sale. The dried food they get are protein pellets, tetra pro flake and tetra prima. I'll try to get some beefheart flake.

Is he having a hard time breathing? Tilted at say 30 degrees? Sometimes near the top of the tank? The biggest issue I have dealt with is Gill Flukes; for me that is. Lots of water changes and definetly turn the temp up say 88-90. Keep an eye on him. I lost three discus because of the wrong prognosis.

I treated with kusuri and that cleared up the flukes. However my cobalt is just getting worse :( All of the other fish are fine but he is going a horrible grey colour he has developed fin rot and just looks awful. I have increased water changes to 40% every 3-4 days and he is still getting worse. I dont know what on earth to do :help:

He's sounds like he has degrading into razor back syndrome. Most likely your best bet would be to cull him. At a minimum I would get him out of the community tank and into a qt tank. Expect to lose him. Well raised discus at 8+ months should be much larger than what they appear in your picture.

I am assuming he isn't eating...... you might want to try this on the rest of them:

I change about 40% of my water daily. It also appears you have a planted tank? Very hard to grow juvies in a planted tank. Take some good pictures and head over to simply discus, somebody maybe able to help you there. My first line of treatment if I was trying to save this fish would be kanamycin, followed by metro......but, in his weakened state he might not survive the treatment.

Ya, I have the same problem. My para's are all fine he/she is super still and getting real pale, all the other discus are doing great change their water regularly. I've had him for almost 5 years I think he was 1 or 2 when we got him, he could be getting old and dying, not sure. He isn't eating blood worms either.

He was about 4-5 inches when i bought him but it seems almost like hes been shrinking. Hes still eating in fact hes ravenous but hes just getting thinner and thinner. Ive separated him into a QT.

Eating and still getting thin is unusual. Usually they stop eating due to some malady and continue to lose weight. Sometimes a fish will have a genetic defect inside....totally unrelated to infection/parasite/diseases...just like any other living thing can have and it results in "unexplained" death. I wish you luck turning him around!
