Disprove Global Warming!!!

It is as easy to preach from the comfort of an armchair as it is hard to get people who still need to worry about their subsistence to care about the environment. That is a luxury that only the comfortable have, and as people who ARE in the position to effect change, the onus falls upon us to do so. When India and China are entirely industrialized and their standards of living are comparable to those we enjoy here, then it'll be ok to __________ and moan about their emissions. You can't reasonably expect others not to do what we had to do to get where we are.

Let's keep it friendly folks..thanks.

14 pages on this topic...What a waste of time....Yes there has been global warming...The world is 1 degree warmer on average...There is no argument about this...

However there is no way to prove or disprove that this 1 degree of warming has had any impact on anything...

The real problem is people trying to say global warming causes this or that without any evidence to prove their statement...

You have to address this issue NOW, it can only get worse if we don't. And if not "global warming" than deforestation, fossil fuel consumption, etc. things that are for the most part visible and acknowledged by most.

Unfortunately there is no way to address the issue of global warming (~1 degree difference on average over 100+ years) as their is no scientific proof as to what is causing it...

Only 1 degree huh? And that's not significant? Actually it's closer to 1.5 degrees! ;)

Global average temperatures over the last 10,000 years has not varied by more than 1.8 degrees- so we've seen much more variation over the last 100 years than the last 10k.

Bare in mind if you don't think a degree makes a difference... the global mean temperature was only 5degrees farenheit lower that it is now during the last ice-age where the entire North Eastern US was 3000ft below ice.

The thing is that the temperatures measured are not 1 degree everywhere- places that are already hot get even hotter. Many places in the world have gone up 6 or 7F over the last century. A degree change can make huge changes to weather patterns... the increase has already seen more hurricanes- although ironically as temperatures go even higher we'll start to see fewer again.

If estimates are to be believed- we're likely to be trippling that raise in temperature over the next century as the built up effect accelerates... most estimates so far in tracking this have actually been TOOOO conservative and temperatures have gone up quick than expected.

Most estimates also don't take into account the effects of us preventing global dimming that has been a major factor in preventing global warmnig getting out of hand.

A 2 or 3 degree increase over the next century as predicted would mean for those of us in the US- we can say good bye to being a food exporter- we'll have to start importing our grains from Canada in the future. "Tropical" diseases such as malaria will be a factor in the US.

So that "oh-so insignificant degree or two" is actually a fairly big deal.

Boy am I glad that it did warm up since the ice age, otherwise we would be living...oh yeah on ice!
We don't have sufficient evidence to prove it or disprove it otherwise. People argue for their own point of view.

I highly doubt the human race would have evolved if the world was covered in a sheet of ice. Oh, but wait! Evolution is no more than a theory too...guess we should just chalk it up to opinion

If someone proves it is a man-made threat: great. If not: great. But calling it all "opinion" (or point of view, whatever...) is a really naive way to go about thinking. And since this thread is supposed to be about collecting scientific data...well, I can understand why Inka may be getting upset.

True not much data is being posted here either way, however, scientific data is just that and with out an opinion or pov (which is just what each scientist is giving you, whatever you want to call it with some fancy terms) from someone to explain the data then it really is just a bunch of numbers people collected. There are too many factors without enough controls to determine if man is having any effect on the planets temperature. I hear numbers of amounts of carbon, co2 and chemicals all over the place from scientists and each one points to prove or disprove with the same data. If we weren't here on the planet sucking the oil from underground and pumping carbon everywhere what would the planet be like? We will never know!!! I for one do look forward to energy efficient and green technology even though I disagree with global warming theory!
