I needed a temporary stand for a 25 gallon tank, and so I threw together this little beauty. It sure isn't pretty, but it will work for a month until I can pick up the stand I am getting off someone else.
Amazingly, we had no cinder blocks around the house, so I went out and bought some. They are cheap anyway. I also bought a cheap 2x4, and cut it into 28 inch planks (the tank is 24 in long, and that gives me an inch on either side). The 6 cinder blocks (I probably could have done 4, but safe is better than sorry) and 2x4 cost around 11 dollars. Not too bad!
I didn't glue or attach anything in any way. I assume that the weight of the filled tank will hold stuff in place.

Here are my photos. Prepare to be unimpressed!!!

Hey, IT WORKS!!! :D

This stand brings to mind two things:

1) The phrase "Bob's your uncle"
2) You have the word "hazard" in your username.

I have done this for my 130 gallon and my 55 gallon tanks, they work great and easy to make them taller or shorter. Easy to transport too. I paint them too, just need a second coat on the blocks.

Rotate 90 degrees and they can support more than a ton. They way you have them they will burst on as little as 300. All you will need is 3 in each stack which will give you 24" of height.

Years ago in married student housing this type of shelving also worked for books, stereo/tv as well as my 20 gallon aquarium. To add a touch of class I remember painting the blocks and two by's a nice brownish color. Good days.
