DIY Canopy for AhSupply kit (10g)

VI -- Installing the Reflector/Endcap wire
My reflector was i believe 24" long, so i had to cut it to 17-18" to fit into the canopy.. Then just use the screws/spacers/brackets to install the reflector in the canopy

Next choose which side of the canopy will be the back. And drill a hole (seriously forgot size lol) for the endcap wire.

Pull the wire through the hole so it looks as follows

Install the bulb (I am using an 18w 6500K bulb) and we are done with the inside..

And heres a random shot of how the vents will look like

Further updates will come later in the week when i get my ballast and paint the outside black..

I have the same kit on my 10g. (single 36w bright kit)
I just retrofitted my standard 'All Glass' light fixture, though. I put the little vents on top of my fixture since there is no fan. Hot air rises, so it just made sense to do so.
Nice little canopy, btw. :)

Thanks Slappy.
I was going to break down the current incandescent fixture and add the kit there, but thought hey either i sell the incandescent hood and get some $$ back or i make the canopy myself for free. Only thing i bought now was the ballast. So if i sell the 10g hood i will get the $ back for the ballast.

Hows your 10g going with the 36w?? crazy lighting lol I didnt want to go that high.
I figured since my 29g is doing great with 1.8wpg then the 10g should be good as well.

It's doing very well...I just need to add some CO2.:) (I'll be setting up some DIY and see how that goes) I've just been dosing Excel since I've added the light. Algae is more common place now with the lighting, but I'm pretty anal about keeping my tanks clean looking so I've never let it get out of control.
Before I just had a single 15w T6 light in there and many plants just were not growing well, so I removed them and went with all low light plants. Now with the new lighting and eventual CO2, I'll be adding more plants soon....very soon I hope. I want to pack that sucker with plants. lol

I haven't been able to focus much attention on the tanks lately as $1700 worth of repairs on my Jeep the last 2 weeks has kept me little preoccupied. lol (new AC compressor, serpentine belt, water pump, radiator, etc, etc.) That's good $$ i could have spent on my tanks!!!....well at least the Jeep is purring like a kitten now.

This is what the tank looks like now with 36w of light.

It's looking very sparse and sad at the moment. I've removed/thinned out many of the plants with algae on the leaves. There's mostly green algae on the glass, with some BBA on the driftwood and staghorn growing on the plants.

The Java fern sure is loving it. The crypts have been moved around quite a bit, so they're not very happy with me at the moment.

I'm going to pack some stem plants in there and replant my 'carpet'. Probably Lilaeopsis or M. Hemianthus...but I'm really lovin' P. Helferi right now. I may throw in some more Dwarf Nana and Crypts in there (C. Lucens) and some Rotala rotundifolia, Ludwigia Repens, and some Red Nesaea for color. :)
I had some Cardamine Lyrata years ago and I loved it...So I may have to go with it. It's such a fast grower and looks incredible as a back ground plant.

The Jeep is a Cherokee Sport 4.0, 4X4.

nice tank. I also noticed that bba is the first to show in both of my tanks. So far i just let it be but eventually will try and pluck it off the wood..

Lilaeopsis as in micro swords?? i dislike that plant because its one of the hardest foreground plants to grow. Its very picky on tank conditions, need high co2, light, ferts and it still wont grow fast.
Downoi is nice, i had it but for some reason it melted ehh..
The dwarf nana you are referring to anubia petite?? if so I think it would look awesome all over the wood. but then again one risks algae problems on its leaves with that high lighting..
Whats that plant on the left back.. anacharis?

Yes, it is anacharis. It will be tossed into my cichlid tank when I give this tank a 'make-over'.
I had Lilaeopsis in this tank last year, and you are right...it didn't do well in the low light.
Yes, the anubia petite can be seen in the bottom right hand corner. it had BBA growing on the older leaves, I have to keep pruning it to keep it looking 'okay'. I definately need more of it.
If I get some P. Helferi, I may let it grow on the driftwood and toss the Java Fern in with the cichlids, too....and the java moss. ;)
