Basically I just needed a footprint of a ten gallon tank , just not the height (for shellies). So instead of getting one online for a not so cheap shipping I've got the $10 one at an lfs and cut it myself, gave a little more height though, with the final volume coming out to about 5.6gal.

This is more of a result than a diy thread, didn't have the cam for in betweens, but here it is anyways:

Also for the glass top, I've had 2 scrap pieces of glass left over, so I cut it to size and instead of getting the plastic hinge, I went old school and just ran a bead of silicone in between the 2 pieces, I did stick some masking tape on either size of the bead and later removed the tape for a cleaner look:

Thanks alot guys.

Gunner the dimensions are 20" x 10" x 6.5", I basically just used a cheap glass cutter from HD, the one you score with.

I was going to take all the silicone sealant off, but then decided not to, just scraped it off the glass that was getting cut out. I scored the side panels in about 2 inch strips first and broke them off with pliers (was safer this way, avoiding cracking the entire pane), then did the same for front and back, being careful breaking the last strip so not to crack the remaining glass.

It was a pita taking the frame off the top, but surprisingly with enough wedging and cutting it came off in one piece.

Seriously though the really hard part was taking the top frame off without breaking it, the amount of silicone they use can go to make a few more tanks :D

No doubt you can split that one in two, though I'd completely take the glass panes apart to avoid the risk of cracking the entire pane.

I am surprised...that is a really cool looking tank. Good thinking and good job with the fabrication!
