DIY Perfect-A-Hood MKII

thankyou sploke, man im new to all the forum acronyms.

so i got my extra hood light fixture. im going to see how 30w goes on my plants. but man its alot brighter with an additional 15w. i cant imagine 110w over the 55g hex. it would be blinding.

I have been reading up on wiring LED's since I know squat about lighting and wiring ( ok, I do know BASIC wiring). Everything on line seems to be about hooking them up to batteries and the resistors needed. how does one go about coming up with enough resistance so that you can plug them into a household outlet?

You don't - you plug a transformer into your AC, minding the voltage & mW to see that your LED grid won't overtax your transformer's DC amperage rating.

maybe I'll just stick with the "You don't" part since you losst me right after voltage...

if you take the strip bulb out and buy prewired "booted" sockets how do you mount them to the white plastic part?

What is a pre-wired booted socket?

its the socket that hold the bulb. like the white porceline type dark soul used. but i thought the rubber encased one would be better. i have a perfecto hood. so its plastic then glass below the bulbs.

the only way ive seen to mount the sockets is holes drilled in wood then the wood mounted with l brackets and that was on a wood canopy. i dont know how to fix the screw in type sockets to the plastic white part.

would it be any good to remove the glass?

You might have to get some small machine screws with nuts since I don't think wood/metal screws will bite on that thin plastic. I think thats what DS did, mounted the sockets with angle brackets, screws and nuts.
