DIY sponge filter with pictures!

I know this is an old DIY but what size pipe would I need for a 70 gal tank???? Also what size air pump??? I am going to build one of these tomorrow for my SW tank, it will be used as a secondary filtrartion device since I already have a Bio wheel 350, any response "qucikly" would be very useful and helpful!!!!!! Thanks

actually you may want to consider more sponge filters for a larger tank..

i'm sorry for the dumb question, but could one essentially stick an airstone into a sponge and would it have the same results / effect?

not quite as effective... the water needs to be displaced.. the tube directs the bubble and creates the flow.. the air bubbles displace water up and out the tube.. the resulting lower pressure in the tube then creates the flow of water to equalize the pressure into the tube thru the sponge.
