Do fish bite?

My GT will act like he is going to bite you through the glass but as soon as you put your hand in the tank he hides like a wuss.....

When I had a breeding pair of convicts they would always attack me anytime I put my hand in the tank for any thing. It never hurt just startled me.

Blood parrot bite

A blood parrot that had a mate with eggs bit me once and left a dime sized ring of teethmarks, no blood but not far from it. I'd fed that guy Malaysian Trumpet Snails which he managed to grind up and eat so I was sort of scared of him after he actually bit me. Stupid fish, those eggs couldn't hatch anyhow!

Like I said, the bichir was what made me ask, but in general I am a wimp about that stuff!! My platys always peck at my arm and it bothers me, I don't know how to explain it, kind of a freaked out/grossed out feeling. All very interesting, thanks guys :thm:

I've had my male discus from my breeding pair draw blood. If there are eggs in the tank, and you put your hand in there for anything, you'll get one nasty bite out of him. My rams are the same way, but too small to do much.

My platys and guppies nip my hands sometimes if they are hungry but it just tickles

yeah my platy and guppy fry kinda attack my finger tip, it feels weird. but river trout have wicked teeth. i hooked 1 about a foot long and grabbed it by its mouth like ur suposed 2. it bit down on me, ripping half the flesh around my thumb joint off. i ended up throwing the bostard into a tree, where it disapeared then next day.

I have had one of my chichlids nip at me. Felt like a little pinch but no blood or anything. No goldfish "bite" though.

I've a bichir, a baby one as well, but she's the "fiercest" of my fish...in reputation alone. Just a teeny dog, really.

...It's the blind tetras you have to look out for. I most certainly did not expect those to have teeth. Do not try to touch them.
