Do fish drink?

Air has a higher concentration of O2 than water, but they may not necessicarily be "drinking" air, they might be eating something on the surface and making an air bubble with their mouth on accident.

What kind of fish is doing it? My bettas and gourami do this all the time.

Are they gulping air from the surface? Some fish like to do this from time to time, and other times some fish will do it in cases where the water isn't oxygenated adequately.

If it's a gourami, it's gulping air.

Those guys are breathing air.

SW fish do drink a lot.
Cool! What and how?
Have they tried 12 steps?

The reason why SW fish drink water and FW fish do not is due to osmolarity.

SW are in salty water and by nature that water has high TDS(dissolved salts in this case). The water in the fish is being pulled out of it by the salty water, so it needs to drink all the time to keep from becoming dehydrated.

FW are in the opposite situation. Water is constantly leaching into them, since their body has a higher concentration of solids than the water they live in. So for them to drink very much would cause bloating.

With this logic, it is easy to realize that FW fish will pee much more often than SW fish.

could it also be the fish trying to get more air into its swim bladder?

I used to keep a few goldfish in a small bowl, and the fish were always gulping air because the water didn't have enough oxygen for them. If you tank water is stagnant and you are overstocked, the problem could be depleted oxygen levels.

But if you tank is not overstocked and is well filtered, I don't know what it coudl be.
