Do shrimp count in the "inch per gallon" rule

Hi,
So I have heard that shrimp are not counted in the stocking rules generally. If this is so, I would like to know if I could add 3 or 4 ghost shrimp to a soon to be fully stocked tank (7 neons, 3 otos, 2 GBRs) and If I'll have any problems with the shrimp and the GBRs. Also, can someone explain why shrimp are counted less in the rule?

well first of all the inch per gallon is off more times then not. shrimp do count. you can fit about 100-150 cherry shrimp in a 10 gal tank.

I was told they dont count. I have 4 in with my 3 Panda Corys,5, 3 spot Rasbora's & 4 Guppies in my 10 gal tank

Yes shrimp count towards total bioload, but not at 1 inch per gallon.

I've kept hundreds of cherry shrimp in a 10g.

So the question still stands, can I fit 3-4 ghost shrimp in my tank, or will I have a problem with the GBR or with Bioload

If your GBR are big enough, shrimp may just be a tasty snack. Yes, shrimp count towards the bioload, but they make up such a miniscule amount that you don't need to worry about it. I usually figure about 10 shrimp per gallon or so.

Well, I don't have the GBRs yet, so I guess I'll pick up some ghost shrimp and let them grow. The GBRs are only 2" anyway, so shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My GBR's are always on the hunt for the unexpecting and smaller RCS.
But they never bother the adults.

I got my shrimp yesterday and 2 are around 5/8" 1 around 3/4" and two around 1". Obviously they are still a little small, but I won't be getting the GBR for at least one month. Do you think they will be big enough by then?

They don't count. My max rule is probably 8 per gallon though.
