of course you do, because most tap water has things like chloramine and clhorine that can be fatal to fish.

Jay,
you should always add the chemical to your water. Before you could let it sit for a 24 hour period and be safe. This not the case any longer. Instead of Chlorine, they are placing Chlorimines (sp?) into our water system that is harmless to us but deadly to fish. The chemical needs to break down these particles so its safe for fish and amphibians.
Now if you live in a system that doesn't use City water, and there are locations that do. You can get away with out using it. I grew up with Well Water and used it all the time for my fish, no need for chemicals.

theres a "fish" called a Gravel Vacuum that sucks up poop. Get one.
I love it!!!

Jay, you cannot get fish or animals to make your job easier. An algae eater or "poop-eater" is not going to make up for frequent tank cleanings and water changes. YOU NEED TO DO THOSE YOURSELF!!! For algae, scrape it off and perhaps reduce feedings. For poop, siphon and do water changes. It's that easy.

When you purchased your 55 gal, you signed up for a responsibility. Whether you like it or not, those animals are depending on you now for everything. Not just food and space, but clean water, good quality of life, and adequate social structure.

I'm sorry to get preachy, but I am tired of your countless posts and threads, that sound to me like you're trying to take the easy way out. Well guess what? There is no easy way out when it comes to an aquarium or other pets.

Isnt that what I already said?

It does seem ridiculous that these questions come up now... after having stocking questions for a few weeks now. Care of the aquarium should have been question #1 not "how many fish!"
